Appeals Court Against California Same-Sex Marriage Ban

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found Proposition 8, the California ban on same-sex marriage approved by voters in 2008, “works a meaningful harm to gays and lesbians” by denying them equal rights.

While gay rights activists called the decision a triumph, the conservative Christian legal foundation The Alliance Defense Fund was not surprised that “this Hollywood-orchestrated attack on marriage — tried in San Francisco — turned out this way.”

“What can you expect from a bunch of homos in the movie industry and in ‘Gay Francisco’ but this kind of abomination” said Scott Trotter, a spokesman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which backed the California ballot initiative. “Marriage is a sacred bond between a man and several women, some of whom may be underage and involved against their will, just as Jesus wanted it.”
